More than an occupation
CD Projekt Red introduces Geralt as a monster hunter for hire in a dark fantasy world, searching for his adopted daughter Ciri. The premise places an occupation alongside a personal relationship. One explains what he does; the other gives the search a different kind of significance.
Different reasons to care
A job can organise attention around a task, while a personal connection can make the same situation feel less abstract. Ask what happens when those ways of caring meet. The professional and the parent have different reasons to keep going, even when they are travelling in the same direction.
Read the goal as well as the scale
An open-world description tells you something about the invitation to explore. A personal search tells you something about why the journey might matter. Consider both when deciding what attracts you to this fiction.
