Read the tone first
Creative Assembly and SEGA introduce Alien: Isolation as survival horror shaped by sustained dread and danger. That framing matters before any discussion of individual encounters. The invitation is to enter an uneasy experience, not simply to explore a setting associated with a familiar science-fiction world.
Curiosity is not the only response
We often describe uncertainty as an engine of discovery. Uncertainty can also narrow attention: instead of asking what a place means, you may first ask whether you want to remain there. A mystery can be interesting in the abstract while its surrounding mood is something you would rather avoid.
Give your preference a clear name
When a game promises dread, consider whether you want the anticipation itself, the eventual explanation or simply the atmosphere as an image. These are distinct attractions. Naming them is more useful than assuming interest in a fictional universe means wanting every experience set within it.
