A challenge within a landscape
FromSoftware’s official description places Elden Ring’s combat within connected open fields and elaborate dungeons. It also describes learning the terrain and developing a character around a preferred play style. A confrontation is therefore part of a wider invitation to explore and experiment.
Persistence has more than one shape
It is easy to picture persistence as repeating the same action until it works. Another kind of persistence keeps the larger intention but changes the immediate approach. Why can a detour feel less legitimate than another attempt? A landscape can offer room to rethink a problem, but accepting that invitation depends partly on what we believe progress should look like. A detour can keep the journey moving without settling the original obstacle.
Name the goal you are keeping
Before deciding that a change of direction is a retreat, distinguish the immediate obstacle from your reason for playing. You might want to understand a world, practise an action or see where a path leads. Those goals need not require the same next step.
