A puzzle with another mind in it
Valve’s official Portal 2 store page describes cooperative puzzles and the ability to design them for friends. That gives us a concrete entry into shared problem-solving: a puzzle is no longer only something one person needs to understand. It is also something people need to communicate about.
Understanding is not the same as explaining
Consider the moment an idea seems obvious to you but not to someone else. Saying what to do may be quicker than explaining why, yet those approaches create different experiences for a partner. The interesting question is how to leave space for another person’s discovery while still making progress together.
Agree on how to share the problem
Before a cooperative session, consider whether you prefer hints, direct instructions or time to experiment independently. Small expectations can matter more than a broad label such as puzzle game. The point is not to impose a rule on every pair, but to recognise that solving and sharing are related tasks.
