A journey into the unfamiliar

The official description of Ori and the Will of the Wisps introduces a journey through a vast, exotic world, with enemies, puzzles and a search for Ori’s destiny. Its invitation combines the appeal of a place with the demands of moving through it. Scenery and action belong to the same proposition.

Looking and doing are different pleasures

An image can make a landscape seem immediately welcoming. Playing asks a different question: what do you want to do there? Separate the pleasure of looking from the pleasure of learning a movement or solving a problem. Both can matter, but enthusiasm for one does not automatically tell you how the other will feel.

Read beyond the image

When a game’s art catches your attention, use its description to identify the activities that sit behind the image. Would those activities still interest you in a plainer setting?
