Choice in company
Larian describes Baldur’s Gate 3 as a party-based role-playing game set in Dungeons & Dragons, where choices shape a story of fellowship, betrayal and survival. The party is central to that framing. The premise is not simply that you can act, but that your actions take place among other characters.
More than the best outcome
One way to read a party adventure is as a negotiation between goals. You may care about success, loyalty, curiosity or the character you are trying to portray. Those aims do not always point in the same direction. That friction can be a problem to optimise or a story worth following even when it becomes untidy.
Decide what you want to protect
Before entering a choice-led game, identify the kind of commitment that interests you. Is it a consistent role, a group you care about or freedom to change course? You do not need a fixed answer, but naming the tension can make a store description more useful. The appeal of a large fantasy setting and the appeal of managing relationships are separate considerations.
